In 2009, I designed a succulent landscape for a customer who had a well-documented previous landscape featured in magazines and books. When she decided to downsize, she wanted to replicate the same impact in a smaller space, which was initially a water-thirsty lawn. Our goal was to optimize the small area with key specimens that would provide lasting beauty and impact while keeping maintenance to a minimum and avoiding overcrowding.

We brought in amended topsoil to create mounds and contours, enhancing the visual appeal. You can never have too many boulders! The plants, carefully curated from a variety of growers I’ve built relationships with over the years, completed the design. A California Gold gravel pathway invites you into this drought-tolerant garden, which now bursts with enduring beauty and simplicity.
